Yesterday, I saw a good friend mucking about with his one year plus little girl. It dawns on me that he’s a daddy now.

One by one I’m seeing the mini versions of my closest friends sprouting – it was such joy. Exhausted for them no doubt.

Only makes life greater than we think it is.

Creativity is not design! It’s not!

But there are creative design, and not-so creative designs out there.

Andy Rutledge came out with a test to illustrate the difference between creativity and design.

In his words, Creativity is bound by no laws, rules, or strictures …which is perhaps why it’s so intoxicating (sometimes to the point of delusion). Design, on the other hand, is based entirely on math, psychology, human perception, and a host of rigid rules and laws that can be broken by only a highly skilled few. How apt.

So the next time when you see an ‘artistic expression’ that makes you feel uncomfortable, maybe because the creative artist is not a designer?

Made and now distributed absolutely free via a creative common license, Sita Sings the Blues sets a benchmark for ‘open source’ film. Many are sceptical with her distribution model and wonders how she can make the money back. Similarly, I am attracted to the idea of sharing but perplexed and eager to find out if the audience are participative with her “creator-endorsed” model whereby promotional materials or the film that carries that logo voluntarily gives its portion of profits to the creator. No doubt it is a brave move and I salute to that!

How yummy these flags look! :)

I love how the creative industry has come out with so many creative ways of being involved in making the world a more sustainable place for living. For example, the Uniform Project has pledged to wear a dress for one year (and in all creative and fashionable ways she can come out with) as an exercise for sustainable fashion with the purpose of raising funds for the Akanksha Foundation. Is this what we call a ‘creative entrepreneurship’ today? Or would something be considered an ‘entrepreneurship’ only if it is making money for oneself?

I love those vintage radios behind!

Was just watching this trailer of a documentary called Art & Copy – a documentary about the advertising world. Probably good for stirring the discussion on how good or how bad advertising is for us! Wonder if I’ll be able to get hold of it.

Neysan did us a big favour by redesigning The Moving Picture’s new site. I love it! Though I’ll have to make changes to the text. Well, TMP isn’t currently active and we just started another new company based in Malaysia. We will keep TMP’s spirit going – it will serve as a collaborative unit for like-minded filmmakers / designers / photographers / artists etc who would like to work together in the future for a common theme. So if you would like to be part of The Moving Pictures, buzz me. :)

Rainn’s video.

For some reason I can’t embed the video so you’ll have to click on the link.

I love cloth!

I came back and dug up one of my old bags and found piles of clothes (kain), from sarongs to pareos and scarves. What I like to do with them is to cover surfaces of the table with it and an old table would immediately look different!

We’ve also been working on doing up our current place (which most probably is going to be, again, temporary). The office is finally up and ‘running’, the bedroom is sweet and simple, and the living room has started having guests over. Hope to put up some pics later. :)
